Tunku Adhikari, who comes from a family of artists, authors, and musicians, studied Graphic Design at Parsons School of Design in New York. He went on to study at NIFT in Delhi, graduating in 1994 - the same cohort that produced some of India's best fashion designers. Tunku co-founded the label Azuli by Leong & Adhikari with a classmate in 1996. The design concept of the company emphasised starkness, balancing painstakingly clean lines with whimsical draperies, both of which stemmed from a firm mechanical foundation. Azuli was known for her progressive approach to garment construction as well as her enthusiasm to experiment with different materials and colours. Some of India's greatest designer boutiques carried the name. Tunku is presently a partner at Adhikari-Seal and the co-director of AYTA Studio of Fashion Arts.
