Welcome to “Watercolor Landscapes For Beginners”:

In this course, I will guide you through sketching and painting watercolor landscapes in as little as 30 minutes. I’ll explain techniques like wet-in-wet and wet-in-dry in real-time and demonstrate how to simplify and sketch a scene in pencil. Geared towards beginners, the course features 8+ full watercolor landscape demonstrations with step-by-step guidance, scans, drawings, and tracing templates for quick and easy transfer of your drawings.

Throughout the course, I’ll narrate my demonstrations in real-time, explaining every technique within the context of the painting. I’ll cover basics, such as drawing and composing your painting, using complementary colors, painting various elements, and the fundamentals of wet-in-wet watercolor painting.

Course Content:

I will cover basics such as:

  • Drawing and composing your painting.
  • Using complementary colors for vibrancy.
  • Painting skies, mountains, water, trees, buildings, and figures with wet-in-wet and wet-in-dry techniques.
  • Timing in watercolors and choosing the right brushes.

Course Materials:

Materials are uploaded under the ‘Introduction’ lecture.

Assignment:

Your assignment is to create a watercolor landscape through sketching and painting! Choose a scene from the course demonstrations, your own photographs, or observed scenes. Drawing freehand is recommended for skill improvement. Finish your pencil drawing with a light and loose touch. Then, use the watercolor steps from the course to finish your painting.

Materials:

Use any normal or mechanical pencil, 100% cotton watercolor paper or sketchbook, student or artist-grade watercolor paints (primary colors + white gouache), and watercolor brushes (mop brush and various round brushes).

Getting Started:

Review exercises and theory videos, then follow along with the course demonstrations. There are 8+ different landscapes to draw and paint. Download tracing templates if needed. Watch the ‘Materials Required’ video for optimal results. Always use the best materials you can afford.

For an extra challenge, find a reference photo from free websites and create your unique watercolor landscape painting using the course processes for watercolor landscapes.
